Camping Life - The Ephemeral City
Divisions between public & private blur, family life is a play in view of the neighbours. Beasts & tribes display. The beer is in the chiller MORE
For a long time I have wanted to make a film about the concept of holidays for contemporary man and shoot the middle class from an anthropological perspective. The campsite was the perfect space to realise this idea as everything is on view, as if we are looking in at a doll’s house, with public and private spaces blurring, and with spontaneous and immediate access to different families lives. I was also interested in the idea of a “holiday town”, a tailor-made paradise for the middle class dominated by pools with slides, discos, and entertainment at all times, a universe that, depending on your point of view, could be seen as kitsch. Finally, I wanted to flip the situation that my country experiences every summer with the influx of thousands of tourists, in that, as they come here to see how we live, experience our culture, and eat our food, why can’t we go to a campsite and see what they do, what they eat, and how they behave.
